RILM will participate in the 21st biannual international congress of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music (IASPM)-U.S. in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on 26–30 June 2023. The theme of this year’s conference is “Popular music in crisis”, which places popular music in the contexts of the COVID-19 pandemic, rise of right-wing populism, effects of anthropogenic climate change, and other challenges pervasive from the beginning of the decade.
Editor and Product Development Coordinator Beatriz Goubert, along with Data Coordinator Lindsey Eckenroth and Editor Russell Skelchy, will be in attendance. On Monday, 26 June, at 10:45am CDT, Russell will present his paper “A Culture of Sharing: Mutual Aid, COVID-19 and a Punk Infoshop in Manila, Philippines” on the panel Sounds of the Pandemic City (Pandemics and Health Crisis stream). Shortly after, at 1:00pm CDT, Lindsey will present her paper “Zine-Based Assignments as Punk Pedagogy” on the panel The Written Archives of Popular Music: Music Magazine and Fanzines as a Repository of Musical Practices, chaired by Beatriz.
Please feel free to find Beatriz, Lindsey, or Russ and ask questions, provide feedback, or just say hello. You can find more details on this exciting event in the conference program and on the conference website.
