As an Assistant Editor at RILM, Insia Malik makes accessions and prepares abstracts for both (ethno)musicological and music-related scholarship, such as anthropology, dance, area studies, and media studies. She works primarily with publications in Spanish and Arabic, with an emphasis on materials from Latin American and Arabic-speaking countries, as well as with English-language publications from across Africa and Asia. She is also the liaison for several of RILM’s national committees.
Malik is an ethnomusicology PhD candidate at the CUNY Graduate Center, and is writing a dissertation on the televised vocal talent competition Arab Idol. She holds bachelor degrees in violin performance and Middle Eastern and Islamic studies from New York University. As a violinist, she appears frequently in performance in New York and across the US and globe.
