RILM and IAML/IMS New York City
Répertoire International de Littératire Musicale (RILM) will be an active participant at this year’s joint meeting of International Association of Music Libraries, Archives, and Documentation Centres (IAML) and the International Musicological Society (IMS) in New York City, 21-26 June 2015. Not only because of the its geographical proximity to the much-anticipated joint meeting in RILM’s New York City home, but also because RILM is celebrating its 50th anniversary, the organization will play an unusually large participatory and supportive role.
Besides the role of Barbara Dobbs Mackenzie, RILM’s Editor-in-Chief, who is also the current president of IAML, other RILM personnel will be chairing sessions, giving papers, and exhibiting.
Mackenzie will chair the meetings of the IAML General Assembly on Tuesday, 23 June at 4 p.m. and on Friday, 26 June at 1:45 p.m., and will chair and present at a session on RILM at 50 on Tuesday, 23 June at 2 p.m. She will also present a tribute to Barry Brook, “RILM and the Brook Center: Barry Brook’s sense of scale”, on Thursday, 25 June at 4 p.m. She will co-chair the closing session on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
Zdravko Blažeković, RILM’s Executive Editor, will also present at the "RILM at 50" session, and will chair the meeting being held with RILM’s National Committee Members. He will also present “The organological work of Franjo Ksaver Kuhac and his 1882 classification of sound sources” at a session on Sound sources on Thursday, 25 June at 2:00 p.m. On Friday, 26 June at 9:00 a.m., he will present “The early years of research on music iconography in the United States: Barry S. Brook and the Research Center for Music Iconography at The Graduate Center, City University of New York”.
Richard Brown, Applications Developer, will assist Blažeković at the meeting with National Committee Members.
Tina Frühauf, RILM Editor and Project Development Coordinator, will chair a panel on Referencing music in the twentieth‐first century: Encyclopedias of the past, present, and future on Tuesday morning, 23 June at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m.
Jonathan Greenberg, Project Development and Metadata Coordinator, will chair a session on Educational activity of librarians in the digital age on Tuesday, 23 June at 11:00 a.m. He will also present at the poster sessions on Thursday, 25 June on the topic “Music history in the present: Publishing a music encyclopedia on the Web with TEI”.
Ardal Powell, RILM’s Project Development Coordinator, will chair a session on Making resources on‐line: Technology and software on Thursday 25 June at 4:00 p.m.
RILM editor and Chinese specialist Yun Fan / 樊昀 will present “A comparative study of the ethnomusicological research in English and Chinese scholarship, analyzing the indexing data of the RILM abstracts of music literature” at Thursday’s poster session.
The RILM exhibit will be attended by editors Joseph Orchard and Maria Rose. Please stop by with any questions you might have about the database or RILM in general.
RILM’s Office Manager Michele Smith will be running the conference registration desk throughout the meeting.
To top it all off (early in the week), RILM, RIPM, RISM, and RIdIM will sponsor a Circle Line Cruise Reception around the island of Manhattan in honor of RILM's 50th Anniversary. It will take place Monday at 6:30 p.m. The cruise is open to all conference attendees, and many RILM editors and other staff members will be in attendance.
